A smashing movie. Watch this every spring to get in the mood for summer. Loved your review. Super news: Under the Boardwalk is finally out in DVD (in a "double feature" with another 80s classic: Tuff Turf). Yay, no more relying on an aged VHS copy.

Lucy, I'm sorry to say I've never seen this movie, but this film's soundtrack featured a song by Baxter Robertson, one of my faves from the early '80s that no one has ever heard of (and a song whose inclusion in this film is puzzling), so I guess someday I'll have to finally sit down and watch it. Or, based on your review, maybe not.

Kaz, I feel the same way...bad, but not unwatchable, and I always have a blast revisiting the 1980s. But does anyone else think that the 'hunk' of the title looks and acts like a tanned, muscle-bound Martin Short?

This looks like such a well-crafted film, what with its sorority bimbos, bloodthirsty uncle, and a miniature clay model of Zardoz. Really, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like it...

Sounds pretty awful to sit through. Mad props.

Yes indeed, Lucy, a '80s teen comedy classic! And not only a lot of fun, but a great look at small-town Ohio in the '50s. Of course, I love the two girls, but I was surprised that the little dink from 'On Golden Pond' could be so comedic and ingratiating. And let's not forget Jami Gertz, who seemed to be in every movie released in the 1980s! Years ago, it took me forever to find an out-of-print copy of this movie, at a video store in Toronto, and the strange thing was, it became kind of a cult favorite for my entire family: the only nominally-raunchy teen comedy that my Dad, Mom, brother, and sister all got a kick out of.

Kaz, I wholeheartedly agree with you on everything...I love this movie, and along with my brother and sister have watched it--and quoted from it--many, many times over the years! Quite possibly my favorite John Cusack movie, along with 'The Sure Thing' and 'Say Anything...'. Many shining moments--my brother and I could not stop laughing the first time we saw the 'two-dollar' kid ride his bike off the cliff--but when you talk about moments that take awhile to spot, the one I remember and like best occurrs after the dance, when Ricky runs towards Lane and Monique, loses his balloon, and has a moment of indecision: continue towards Lane and Monique, or chase the balloon. I've never been a fan or Rob Schneider, but I cut him some slack for this one. And reading your review just reminded me that I need to add this disc to my collection...

i love this movie much more than I should. The tape I have is called "Halloween Night" and it has a different cover (just a pumpkin and some fog I think). Also, the band is "D.C. LaCroix", and they released two albums (that song is on the first one). As it happens, I'm an expert on female fronted heavy metal of the 80's. ;)

I LLLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE this movie!!!!!! I saw it when it came out (I was 12), and had the "album", memorized all the songs, and knew all the lines. I even performed the "Cool Rider" scene at my HS talent show. I have Grease 1 and 2 on DVD and defend it to this day!!!!! ;)

Unfortunately due to Corey Feldman's drug problems the movie was never pushed commercially and the soundtrack was never released :(

The info that I have listed comes from the movie credits. Such a shame - it would have been a brilliant soundtrack!
